The work of Unitarian Society of Ridgewood (USR) is divided into 6 Circles, each responsible for varied work but joined by their common, larger, mission-based purpose. The Circles, while defined as separate, work together as few congregational projects are truly discrete. The Circles, their Facilitators, and the Ministerial and Staff leadership work at all times to center the Mission and Covenant of USR and are driven in their decision making by our shared principles and ideals.
The Congregational Connections Circle fosters a sense of community and care within the walls of USR, helping Congregants to connect to each other and access the support they need.

The Spiritual Development Circle creates, on Sundays and throughout the week, opportunities for Congregants and friends to deepen their spiritual development through worship, arts, music and religious education for children, youth and adults. Contact Laura Krag: spirits.usr@gmail.
The Wider World Circle reaches beyond the walls of USR to work for and advocate for social justice causes, to strengthen relationships with other religious and justice organizations, and to connect to the larger world of Unitarian Universalism.

The Asset Management Circle maintains the strength of the finances, oversees the upkeep of the facilities and grounds, and increases congregational stability through coordinated fundraising efforts and the cultivation of planned giving.

The Welcoming and Participation Circle increases, internally and externally, awareness of what USR has to offer, helps visitors learn about and participate at USR, and shepherds people as they become fully integrated members and congregational leaders.

The Governance and Well-Being Circle serves the vital functions of governance, policy, budget, safety and congregational assessment, as required by the bylaws, in order to maintain the health of the organization, the safety of the membership, and the well-being of the Mission and Covenant.

How the Structure Operates
Each Circle has a trained Facilitator who serves a three-year term. The Facilitators convene meetings, provide communication within and outside of the Circle, and are easily accessible points of contact for USR Members and Friends interested in the work of that Circle. The six Facilitators meet quarterly to accomplish certain logistical tasks, such as calendaring and budgeting, and are in frequent contact in recognition of the interconnected nature of our endeavors. The Minister and Staff support the work of the Circles.
Members and Friends are encouraged to find a place in at least one Circle of work at USR, finding fulfillment through volunteering. If you have any questions, please reach out to one of the Circle Facilitators or the USR Office for more information.
