Share the Plate/ Share the Porch
In 2012 the Board of Trustees approved a plan to collect funds at Sunday services to benefit local non-profit groups that align with our UU justice values and that are consistent with the mission of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood. In 2020, as a way to expand our giving, the Share the Porch initiative was added. This new dimension allows congregants to support organizations by giving material goods to those in need of help and enables families and youth alternative sharing opportunities. Plate and Porch giving alternates monthly throughout the year. Our sharing program is administered by the Share The Plate/Share the Porch Team, part of the Wider World Circle. Porch giving is organized under the consultation of Marilyn Maney.
The following guidelines have been developed to describe the process by which donations are collected on Reeb Porch and the procedures to be followed for a successful collection. The Guidelines are published on our USR website (uuridgewood.usr) under the Social Justice header.
- Each Share the Porch campaign is run by volunteers.
Any member or friend of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood is eligible to suggest ideas for collections and should contact Marilyn for guidance.
- Porch collections are most successful when they focus on a local need.
III. Publicity:
Each volunteer run campaign requires the following:
-Contacting Carol Wolf, graphics coordinator, 15 days before the first of the month to create a flyer for PR and a banner for services. -Submitting a blurb to Ann Pareti, Congregational Administrator for inclusion in the weekly Eblast. Due by noon the Tuesday before publication.
-Drafting a short announcement for Sunday services and sent to Rev Sarah and the Board President and Vice President. Currently Mary Mogerley and Liz Kempey.
-Contacting our social media volunteers to post on Facebook and Instagram. If you have events you would like to see promoted on FB or Instagram, please email our communications intern Rae at this address: rm4179@utsnyc.edu and use the subject line: USR OUTREACH and also cc Rev Sarah.
* Consult with Ann Pareti, our Congregational Administrator, for appropriateness of collection items designated for the porch. * Volunteer coordinators may also want to consider creating an Amazon wish list for donations and shipped directly to USR. Again, notify Ann Pareti if an Amazon list is created and publicized.
