October 1st and 2nd is shaping up to be a joy-filled weekend of spending time with friends old and new. Whether you grew up at USR, or have moved away, or are a current devoted friend or member, or are just curious about us, LET’S COME TOGETHER!
As we prepare, here are some specific requests:
- Plan to attend as many events as you like!
- Invite at least two other people to join you.
- Bring non-perishable food and clean, reusable grocery bags on Sunday, or drop off on the Reeb porch before Oct. 1. They’ll go to Father English Food Pantry in Paterson.
- Contact Janice Lohr (551-206-9727) to say what you’ll bring on Saturday (chili for the contest, salad, cornbread or dessert).
- Focus on the 10am Sunday service as our great Homecoming gathering!
The current schedule is below. Be sure to check back as the weekend gets closer…more events may be added!
Please contact Jack Lohr if you would like to help with any part of the weekend – we are planning a group outdoor game, maybe a movie screening, some potluck time… and we need your help!
Saturday, October 1:
9-11:30am – Jan Bottcher, Martin Walker, Margaret Summer & Gus Summer lead a team going to sort food at Father English Food Pantry, Paterson. (advance registration required, with documentation of vaccination) We’re collecting non-perishable food and clean, reusable shopping bags on the Reeb porch to take with us.
1-3pm: Soccer (sort of) [it’s called Circle Rules Football] Rev. Sarah’s fiance Guy Yedwab will teach us how and facilitate the action for all ages. Please bring water (and lawn chairs if you’re not going to play). We are playing at Veterans Field in Ridgewood which is the grassy area at the southeast corner of Linwood and Maple. Permission forms (from our insurance company) are here: (adults) (minors). It would be simplest if each participant comes with a form already printed out and signed. I guess we’ll bring some blanks on Saturday.
3pm – Octoberfest! S.H.A.R.E. Cottage House, 104 Cottage Place. Food, fun, residents, family, and friends. Please click here to RSVP.
5pm – Chili contest/potluck. Janice Lohr & Bob Shoemaker will coordinate in Fellowship. Chili entries are closed; please bring cornbread, salad or dessert for the potluck. According to USR Alcohol Policy, we can BYOB (bring your own beverages) to in-house events that are not fundraisers. It would be nice if adults brought something to share at table. This could include fruit juice, soda, homemade sparkling water, beer or wine (but nothing else alcoholic).
6:30pm – Movie Screening (a couple of Disney/Pixar shorts for all ages, recommended by Cartuuns curriculum)
Sunday, October 2:
9-10am – Breakfast for COA youth and parents in the Youth room.
10am – Service led by Rev. Sarah, Ron Levy, Laura Krag, Hetty Hirshman, and company.
11am – Group Photo taken by Steve Riskind.
11:05am – Potluck coordinated by Hetty Hirshman, Kirsten Huze and Laura Krag.
